Car down bank near Apata

One person is in a moderate condition after a vehicle went over a bank near Whakamarama this morning.

A police media spokesperson says the incident happened at about 7am.

"This crash it was reported to emergency services just after 7am and involved one car down a bank.

"The crash happened near State Highway 2 and Apata Station Road.

"One person received moderate injuries and a tow was required for the vehicle."

Emergency services are responding to reports of a car down a bank on State Highway 2 near Apata Station Road.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says fire, ambulance and police are in attendance.

"You can't see much from the road side but it looks as if a car has gone over the bank.

"Ambulance staff had stretchers out and it looks as if they were trying to get someone from the car."

Diversions are currently in place in the area and motorists should take caution if travelling near the area.
