A mountain biker has been airlifted to hospital after falling from her bike on Sunday.

A spokesperson for the BayTrust Rescue Helicopter says crews were dispatched at about 2.30 pm to a mountain bike track near Bennydale.

'A 63-year-old female had a fall and dislocated her shoulder.

'The area where the incident had occurred was in native bush, near the summit of a mountain and required the use of the Southern Trust Rescue Winch to extract the woman from the scene.

'She was flown to Rotorua Hospital for further assessment and treatment.

'Early that day the rescue helicopter had been tasked to fly a critical patient from Rotorua Hospital to Waikato Hospital for urgent medical treatment.”
