Woman assaulted and left on roadside

A woman has been assaulted after being dragged into a vehicle early this morning.

The woman, in her early 20s, was left on the roadside on Grey Street in Hamilton around 2am.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault.

"A woman in her early 20s was approached by a man driving a dark-coloured sedan on Grey Street.

"The man has approached the woman and dragged her into his vehicle, where he has assaulted her before leaving her on the roadside," says a statement from police.

"The woman was shaken and is being supported by Police and Victim Support."

The man is described as Maori, approximately 30 years old, with short hair and wearing a black jumper.

Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time, or whose property has CCTV footage of the Grey Street area between Anzac Parade and the Hamilton East Primary School dip.

They can contact Detective Sergeant Scott Neilson on (07) 856 6200, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
