Homes and businesses without power

UPDATE:

A fault in a substation has cut supply to about 700 Powerco customers in Tauranga.

Homes in Gate Pa and Tauranga South are reported to have been affected by the outage alongside a number of businesses in the CBD.

Network Operations Manager Phil Marsh says the power cut occurred around 11.30am and customers in Gate Pa and Tauranga South were affected.

'These include a number of major clients and we apologise for the loss of supply,” he says.

'We are still trying to determine what caused the outage and are working to restore supply."

Power is estimated to be restored by 3.30pm.

Earlier:

A power outage is being reported across Tauranga city, with homes in Gate Pa and traffic lights in the CBD affected.

Homes in Gate Pa and Tauranga South are reported to have been affected by the outage.

Powerco reports 696 homes are without power.

A number of businesses in the CBD are also without power.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says traffic lights are also out on Devonport Road, causing large traffic delays.

The cause of the power cut is not yet known. Power is estimated to be restored by 3.30pm.

There have been too many outages in TAURANGA and it is time Powerco improved its performance .
