'Massive branch' falls on van

A "massive branch" has fallen on a vanload of people on State Highway 2, near the former Mr McGregors fruit and vegetable stall at Te Puna.

A reporter at the scene says the van is believed to have four men inside when the branch fell on it.

'It appears they are not injured and are waiting for a tow truck.

'A witness who watched it happen said the van ‘was full of guys.'

'Another person stuck in traffic says they have been waiting for that particular tree to come down for a while.”

Police and emergency services are at the scene.

Tauranga Council make a plan to take action on all these large dangerous trees in our city and road sides, this could have been 4 more peoples lives that died at your hands, and all the extended family it affectsCount your lucky stars, look at the poor lady and her family in Rotorua.

@Peaches, how do you figure this is TCC's problem? The fatality in Rotorua should be Rotorua Lakes Councils problem and the indecent today was in WBOPDC's area. Neither have anything to do with TCC.
