Sun, sand, surf and Volkswagen's are on the menu for many locals this weekend.

Run to the Sun is an event for all Volkswagen lovers, and like last year, hopes to bring hundreds of adoring fans to the Mount.

Now a three day event, more than 50 'dubstar' owners clustered around the Mount Maunganui Beachside Holiday Park yesterday, ready for the public show today.

One of the event organisers Steve Cartwright says the Run to the Sun is a good chance to catch up with other Volkswagen lovers and show the public why the group loves them so much.

'Team up with your dub-mates and enjoy the cruise to the beautiful Mount Maunganui from wherever it is you are coming from.

"Set up your camp, sit back, chill, catch up with friends and enjoy the surroundings.”

Today VW will be showing off their unique and colourful rides to the locals at the Phoenix carpark until 2pm.

'This year's charity is the NZ Breast Cancer foundation. We will of course greatly appreciate any donation you can make to support this incredibly important organisation.”

There will also be judges scoping the carpark to find winners ahead of the prize giving at 6pm, alongside the people's choice award.
