UPDATE 9.15AM: The stolen vehicle has been recovered.

A police spokesperson says the car was located by police on Saturday afternoon at The Base in Te Rapa, Hamilton.

A post to the Ebbett Holden Tauranga Facebook page says the car was initially stolen from the Bethlehem Countdown carpark at around 5.45pm, following an accompanied test drive.

EARLIER:

Police are asking people to keep an eye out for a $90,000 car that has been stolen.

The car is a Blue 2016 Holden Clubsport, which was taken from a Tauranga car yard.

"The stolen vehicle has stolen number plates on it. It was last seen at 3pm on Saturday in Kihikihi, outside of Te Awamutu in the Waikato," says Waikato police Senior Sergeant Phil Ruddell.

Police attempted to stop the car but the occupants refused and reached speeds of close to 200km, when police decided not to pursue the vehicle due to public safety, says Phil.

He says police believe they know the occupants of the car and they aren't thought to be a risk to the public.

Phil is asking people to contact the police should they see this car. He believes it would also be close to being out of petrol so service stations have been notified to be on the lookout for it.
