Four armed offenders stormed into a Huntly store and stole cigarettes and the shop's till.

Detective Mike Kaukau says police are investigating the aggravated robbery that occurred in Huntly on Tuesday 20 February.

Around 2.50pm, four armed offenders entered a superette on Hakanoa Street, making off with cigarettes and the till before fleeing towards Bailey Street.

"The two shopkeepers in the dairy at the time were not injured but are understandably shaken and being provided with supported.

"We know that these types of incidents are traumatising and frightening for shop owners and we take them very seriously.

"We are asking that anyone who may have been in the area at the time or has any information contact us on 07 214 5169."

...cigarettes are banned from sale the better. Let the thugs deal with other thugs to indulge their habit. Or, perhaps a kinder approach: Cigarettes available by prescription, as part of a "stop smoking" program. For the die hard addicts who have smoked all their lives and simply cannot stop: grow your own tobacco for your own use at home.
