Tauranga hockey is one of the big recipients of 690,000 returned to the community in February by the Lion Foundation.

Tauranga Hockey received $200,000 towards a new turf at Blake Park. The grant will help alleviate the pressure on the existing facility and hopefully put a stop to late night trainings for the foreseeable future.

Other groups to receive funding included The Elms Foundation, $25,000; Tauranga City Basketball, $50,000; Parafed Bay of Plenty, $40,000; Greenpark School, $20,000; House of Science Tauranga, $20,000; and Aquinas College, $5000.

The Lion Foundation returned more than $690,000 in grants to a range of worthy causes. The grant recipients are as diverse as the community itself, but the one thing they have in common is the lasting difference they make to the people around them.

The Youth Development Trust Western Bay of Plenty received a grant this month for the Kiwi Can programme they run in 10 schools across the Western Bay. The $60,000 from The Lion Foundation will support the salaries of the local Kiwi Can and Project K leaders, helping them to deliver life skills programmes to over 2500 primary and intermediate students in 2018.

The Lion Foundation is one of New Zealand's leading and most respected funding Trusts, supporting thousands of schools, sports clubs, charities and community groups across the country every year.

The Lion Foundation returns money from gaming machines to the community. Last year that equated to over $36 million through over 3,500 grants for community-based organisations across New Zealand.

How much more money can this organization suck out of community funds. Didn't they recently get a commitment from the council for funds as well. Put the subs up like so many other clubs have to do if they have expansion requirements or seek private sponsorship.
