More families in need will be shifting to transitional housing from today, with the addition of 10 new homes at the Opal Drive housing complex in Papamoa.
The date marks the second stage of the development, called Kainga Atawhai which is located at 45 Opal Drive.
A letter has been distributed to residents in the surrounding area notifying them of these latest updates.
TCHT acting general manager Paul Wollaston says an informal blessing ceremony will be held at Kainga Atawhai at 9am.
“We have been working with MSD to select the families who will be living in these homes and they will be progressively shifting in later in the week.
“TCHT is a registered community housing provider that has been successfully housing people in this region for the past 13 years.
“TCHT’s support staff actively work with residents to develop and maintain a settled, cooperative and harmonious culture within and around the Opal Drive village.
“Residents living on the site are closely managed and supported by a tenancy manager, housing service workers and an onsite custodian.
“TCHT staff work closely with residents, and where appropriate, link them to agencies such as Budget Advice, Work and Income, and education, health, and disability services to ensure they have the necessary support they require to find permanent accommodation.”
In addition to the informal blessing, a public barbecue is also being held on Saturday March 17.
“This is an opportunity to meet us, and our Kainga Atawhai tenants and local residents are all invited to meet informally over a sausage and soft drink.”
