Signing in unison

For this year's New Zealand Sign Language Week TV commercial people from all over NZ will be sign-singing in unison with Tiki Taane latest song 'No Place Like Home” featuring Ria Hall.

Sign-singing or karaoke signing has become a very popular way for deaf people to express feeling and feel the music through their bodies without vocally hearing it.

Today lots of locals arrived at Tay Street Beach Café, to celebrate NZSL Week and have some fun with family and friends by either participating in the Flash Mob or supporting.

'The NZSL flash mob is a great way for deaf and all-hearing people to come together in celebration of New Zealand's third language,” says a Deaf Aotearoa spokesperson. The NZSL flash mob was first held in Wellington on March 4, and will go on to Christchurch on March 17.
