Say no to Maori wards

After spending nearly 20 years in the USA my wife and I arrived back in New Zealand to be surprised at how much influence Maori have on New Zealand life and culture. Neither of us are racist in any way, shape or form, but in the few short years that we have been back ‘home' we see this influence growing surprisingly quickly.

Yesterday we were pleased to see some great articles in multiple publications regarding this matter. It is clear that those who have actually read the Treaty of Waitangi see that what is happening now is clearly outside the treaty's premise.

We urge all of you who love this country to do some serious research as to the current trend and make your opinions heard. Sign the petition that is presently open to signatures that asks our government officials to say no to the creation of Maori wards.

Maori are supposed to be totally equal to Pakeha according to the Treaty, and there would be outrage if government or anyone else suggested that we needed Pakeha wards for any reason. Do what is right and speak up. Your silence is your support for something that is very dangerous for this country.

NZ has become so ridiculously racist now that every decision taken by government revolves around "how will this impact on maori?", and totally ignores the other 85% of Kiwis without maori blood. Don't believe me? Ask anyone who works for Government or Council.

Feel the same...

that for 120 years of our early development, Maori were ignored, marginalised and victims of massive government instigated land theft. We are not ne people" in the way you present it. We are one nation, two peoples. Maori and the rest. It is a fact of life in N.Z. Maori cannot live by your dictates, it is simply not possible. Rather than dwelling on perceived negatives and becoming a self appointed "victim" like the captain, embrace the positives and give a little. The same applies to the above letter writer, who is unaware that we do indeed have wards dominated by Pakeha as are all representative models at local body level. Robin Bell.
