Popular animated kids' film ‘Shrek' also has a musical version, and it's coming to Tauranga this year thanks to Stage Right Trust.

Trustee and director for ‘Shrek The Musical' Toni Henderson says the show will run for eight performances in the Addison Theatre, and will have a cast of around 40.

An information evening is being held at 8.15pm on Tuesday March 20 in the Tauranga Primary School Hall for people to find out more about the production.

'Anyone who's keen to be involved in any aspect, either on stage or behind the scenes, can come along or find out how we see the show being staged, what's involved, and what level of commitment is required,” says Toni.

People will also be able to book an audition on the night if they want, with auditions beings held the weekend of April 14-15. Rehearsals begin in June, with the show hitting the stage in the final week of September.

Toni says Stage Right Trust was formed by herself and other likeminded people who wanted to put on different kinds of shows.

'We decided Tauranga had grown and was ready for more theatre. We put the trust together to stage shows not in competition, but in complement to other societies. A lot of people work with us who still do shows with other theatres and schools.”

Last year they staged their first show, ‘Blood Brothers', which received rave reviews.

'Our first production was ‘Blood Brothers' which was well-received by the community,” says Toni. 'But this a total contrast to that show, and that's one of our key focuses. We want to cater for a range of audiences, as opposed to doing the same kind of thing.”
