A large police presence in Welcome Bay overnight sparked a number of people's curiosity, with people taking to social media wondering what was going on.

A SunLive reader messaged us on Facebook saying: “There's police everywhere and they have been spotted gearing up with vests and weapons.”

A reporter who went to the scene says there were several police units deployed to Osprey Drive.

A police media spokesperson says the operation was in response to police looking for a wanted person.

“Police were looking for a wanted person, who was located and taken into custody.”
