Convicted, but paroled, killer Dean Wickliffe is back in court after allegedly breaching his parole conditions.
Wickliffe, 69, has spent 41 years of his life behind bars as a result of more than 50-or-so convictions in his lifetime including manslaughter, aggravated robbery, escaping, kidnapping, driving with excess breath alcohol and possessing methamphetamine for supply.
Between 1987 and 2011 he has been freed and recalled to prison five times.
His most recent release was granted in May last year and he is now living in the Bay of Plenty.
Wickliffe made a brief appearance via AVL at Tauranga District Court on Thursday. He faces one charge of breaching his bail conditions by consuming alcohol.
Judge Thomas Ingram remanded Wickliffe in custody without plea until his next appearance on April 11.
Wickliffe was also ordered to abide by several special conditions expected to last five years.
He was also banned from drinking alcohol and taking illegal drugs or taking psychoactive substances
Wickliffe gained infamy in 1972 when he was charged in relation to the death of Wellington jeweller Paul Miet during an armed robbery.
He earned further infamy after being the only person to successfully escape from Paremoremo prison - twice.
Wickliffe was originally charged with murder but the Court of Appeal ruled the charge should be downgraded to manslaughter.
He was released on parole in May 2017, around the same time he completed writing an autobiography of his life.

Leave the poor buga alone .Hes been as guilty as sin on many many occasions,But let him have a bloody beer without looking over his shoulder.Again he is guilty but how much more monies and police time do we want to spend on this old man? Time to either lock him up or leave him alone

I agree with Dazed and Confused, leave Dean alone to enjoy a beer or two with whatever mates he chooses providing they are not any where near the drug scene.

It would seem you are well aware of the effects of a beer, if your handle is anything to go by. That of course is the time of weakenss when crap happens... the track record is clear, bad as! He is allowed out on a few somple conditions, the answer is easy, comply or go back home.

Im not sure exactly what he has done to break his parole conditions but it might be a case of the authorities been overzealous in his case he has served his time and some why cant he be given some slack.?

do anything that is legal for anyone else to do. It should be simple. If he commits crime he gets tried for the crime/s. If he doesn't commit crime leave the poor bastard alone!!!
