Three people have been arrested following police raids on Bay of Plenty addresses connected to the Mongrel Mob ‘Barbarians' gang in Opotiki.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Standen says the trio were arrested in connection with the supply of methamphetamine in the Opotiki community.

This morning's search warrants were part of an operation targeting methamphetamine dealing in the community.

Greg says Bay of Plenty Police will continue to target the supply of methamphetamine in our communities.

'It's a destructive drug that impacts families in our community and destroys lives.

'It's important to remember that these people supplying drugs to our community put profit above all else and do not consider the health and wellbeing of users.

'We know that this drug is also a driver of crime in our community and we are committed to holding these suppliers to account and preventing further harm in our communities – we don't need this drug in Opotiki.”

Three Opotiki locals, a 40 year-old woman, a 40-year-old man and 27-year-old woman, will appear in the Whakatane District Court tomorrow on a number of methamphetamine related charges.

Executing people for drug dealing is pretty extreme. Calm down. Chuck them in jail. I know a couple of people who have had a complete change of life after being busted for meth. One now works as a rehab counciller.

WTF?

@MissA, You're kidding, aren't you? Agree with Bruja, meth and synthetics are a scourge on society, but killing people for their addiction is just a little step too far in the war on drugs.
