Support group seeking SH2 change

The SH2 traffic debacle has taken on another dimension. A Facebook page called ‘Fix the Bloody Road' has started up and they're asking for anyone who is affected by this stretch of road to join and swell their numbers.

They want action yesterday but the powers that be are refusing to do anything that can/will save lives. It appears they are not interested. Maybe they don't live in this area, are not affected by the traffic problem or have not lost a loved one in one of the numerous serious crashes on this stretch of highway.

It doesn't matter what option the powers that be choose, if indeed they choose any.

Those options are TNL, a set of lights or a flyover at Omokoroa Rd/SH2 intersection. They are going to cost big money. Leaving any option for another 10 years will only increase that cost tenfold with inflation, increased labour and material costs, not to mention cost lives.

Lowering the speed limit will be ineffectual as many drivers can't stick to the designated speed limits we currently have. That will simply cause impatience and stupid decision-making.

If you want to see changes made, join this group and give them your support.

S Gussey, Omokoroa.
