Rugby, galas and movies

File photo.

Good morning everyone and welcome to Saturday! According to this morning's radio weather bulletin, your umbrella is apparently going to be your best friend today - but here's hoping that isn't the case, because there are a bunch of neat activities to get out there and enjoy!

To kick off the weekend it's the start of the rugby season, so be sure to hit some of the many parks and reserves around the city to catch a game.

If you want more family-based activities to head along to you won't be disappointed because there are a variety of family-friendly events happening around the city.

Head along to the Matua School Gala for loads of family fun and food including carnival rides, bouncy castles and pony rides.

Enjoy a variety of stallholders at their market, with games for everyone.

The Gala runs from 10am-3pm at Matua School, 145 Levers Rd.

Later in the night, the school will then host a special Night Owl Cinema community event.

A movie screening of Big Hero 6, is sure to bring some laughs to tweens and (ok, we'll admit it) the whole family.

The event falls on Neighbours Day and organisers encouraged all people who live in the local area to come along - and meet someone new, within your own friendly community.

These events are some of just many fun and exciting things happening around the city, you can find a full list of what's on below:
