Two people have been critically injured following a crash near Matamata.

This is understood to be the same crash in which a passenger was thrown from the vehicle around 10.30pm.

The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was sent to the scene of the accident on Morgan Road.

A 19-year-old man was flown to Waikato Hospital for assessment and treatment, says a spokesperson for the rescue helicopter.

The other injured person was also flown to Waikato Hospital by the Hamilton-based Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

Earlier that evening the Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was also tasked with transporting a 37-year-old critical patient to Waikato Hospital.

Both of these flights were conducted used the use of night vision goggles, says the spokesperson.
