A Mount Maunganui rest home has won the Aged Advisor Best Aged Care Medium/Large Facility (North Island) Award for the second year in a row.

Malyon House on Heath Street in the Mount provides care for 57 residents in both their rest home and hospital facilities.

Managing director Amy Munro says they have 75 staff, including registered nurses, caregivers, cleaners, activity coordinators, and kitchen and laundry staff.

'It's extremely flattering to win the win the award again. It's a real credit to our team, they're wonderful people,” says Amy. 'Our staff have such care and compassion for our residents – they deserve this recognition.”

Aged Advisor, a website that allows residents and their families to rate and review their aged care facilities, gives out awards to rest homes around the country every year. This year's finalists were decided based on more than 2500 reviews across more than 530 facilities.

Managing director Nigel Matthews says only one award is given out for facilities of Malyon House's size in the North Island each year.

'I'm very pleased to present this award to Amy and her team. It's thanks to the residents for sharing their experiences and letting us know what a great job Malyon House does.”

Amy says her family has owned Malyon House for 22 years. The facility is named after Sara Malyon (1845-1926) the first registered nurse in Te Puke and ‘the only midwife for 50 miles' at the time.

Bob Owens Retirement Village was also a finalist for this year's Aged Advisor People's Choice Best Retirement Village (North Island).
