As well as playing for Duncan Lowry's squad, Peverley will also introduce and develop a new coaching programme designed for young boys and girls into the area.

The former All White has played at the highest level across New Zealand, and went on to represent Auckland City, Hawke's Bay United and Team Wellington after spending four years in the academy of German club Hansa Rostock.

During his spell in the capital, he coupled his playing career with a full time coaching role with Miramar FC and a director of football post at Scots College.

And having played competitively against the likes of Lionel Messi, David Beckham and Alexis Sanchez, the Aucklander is looking forward to settling in the region with his wife and daughter.

'I've got the desire to continue playing,” says Cole, 'so when I became aware that Duncan had taken over at Papamoa, I sensed it could be a really exciting time to join the club.

'Duncan is a coach that I have admired for a long time, so it wasn't a difficult decision.

'I'm also really excited to head up my Player Development Programme in the area, which essentially will be an in-house academy.

'I'm ready to put down some firm roots and enjoy the family life, so I'm delighted to be able to pass on some of the knowledge I've picked up over the years to the youngsters of the Bay of Plenty.”

Duncan Lowry says: 'We're delighted to have Cole on board. He could have walked into just about any top team in the country, and I never dreamed when I took over at Papamoa that we'd be in a position to sign such a highly-talented player.

'He's a great signing, and the players we have will benefit greatly from playing alongside him.

'Cole is a player who thrives on encouraging the talent of those around him, and I sincerely hope football fans from all over the Bay of Plenty take the opportunity to come over to Papamoa and be entertained.”

Details of Cole's new Coaching Player Development Programme will be revealed in the near future.
