Car smashes into power pole in Papamoa

UPDATED 2PM: No injuries have been reported after a car crashed into a power pole in Papamoa.

Emergency services were notified opf the crash at the intersecton of Alexander Place and Papamoa Beach Road just after 1.05pm.

"Only one occupant of the car who was out and walking, there were no reported injuries however there's an indication the driver may have suffered a medical event - ambulance may be able to help more," says a police spokesperson.

"The power pole is reportedly damaged although no lines down. Relevant contractors have been advised.

"It's not reported to be blocking the road."

Reports are coming of a crash in Papamoa this afternoon.

It's understood a car has crashed into a power pole at the intersection of Papamoa Beach Road and Alexander Place.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says the power pole appears to have been damaged in the crash but is still standing.

People are being warned to be careful in the area until the crash scene is cleared.
