After heavy rain over the long weekend, Puketui Road, Hikuai, is closed until further notice as the ford is still in flood.

All other District roads are open as are all state highways, says the Thames Coromandel District Council.

"Work is continuing on the Thames Coast Road (SH25) to repair damage from the 5 January storm, with stop-go or traffic lights to manage traffic past work sites. Please take note of the speed restrictions and drive carefully.

"NZTA have the latest information about road closures and issues on our State Highways (eg, the Thames Coast Road, Kopu-Hikuai Road)."

You can also use their journey-planning website www.onthemove.govt.nz to plan the best route for your journey, taking into account known issues and traffic on state highways.

"Due to the bad weather over the weekend, a large amount of silt and debris has been washed into the stream that supplies water to Coromandel Town," says the council.

"Therefore the Coromandel Water Treatment plant is processing water at a reduced rate, leaving our treated water storage reservoirs very low.

"We are asking all residents and visitors to Coromandel Town to kindly conserve water as best as they can while our treatment plant recovers to improve the water storage levels at our reservoirs.

"It's also important to stay informed before, during and after emergencies. The more avenues of communication available to you, the better."
