Car crashes into tree in Thames

A woman in her 70s has been seriously injured after the car she was driving crashed with a tree in Thames.

Emergency services were called to the crash near the intersection of Parawai Rd and The Booms Ave around 6pm.

Fire and Emergency northern communications shift manager Colin Underdown says the woman sustained serious injuries in the crash.

The woman was taken to a waiting Westpac Rescue Helicopter and flown to Waikato Hospital in a serious condition.

A spokesperson for the rescue helicopter says the woman had suffered multiple injuries 'when her foot got stuck on the accelerator and her car crashed through a fence”.

'She self-extricated from the vehicle and was flown to Waikato Hospital in a serious condition.”
