Police car involved in Mount crash

Three vehicles are involved in the crash on Maunganui Road.

UPDATED 2.15PM: A total of five vehicles, including one police car, have been involved in two crashes in the Mount Maunganui area this afternoon.

The first crash happened on Maunganui Road at 1.15pm.

'Three cars were involved in the crash and there are blockages due to the crash,” says a police spokesperson.

'There are no serious injuries however one person was checked by ambulance staff. A tow was required for one of the vehicles.”

The second crash happened at the intersection of Hewletts Road and Totara Street, and involved a police car.

'The intersection crash involved two cars.

'There were no injuries and inquiries are ongoing to understand the circumstances of the crash. This crash was reported at 1.19pm.

'Motorists are asked to avoid the Mt Maunganui Road/ Hewletts Road/Totara Street area while the scenes of both crashes are cleared.”

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says the one near Totara Street looks like a police car has been involved in the crash.
