Car smashes into power pole in Te Puna

UPDATED 11.02AM: One person has been taken to hospital following a crash near Te Puna.

A police media spokesperson says the crash happened just after 9am when a car crashed into a power pole on SH2 near Te Puna.

'One person has been taken to hospital by ambulance, reportedly in a serious condition.

'Serious Crash Unit are at the scene but the road is not closed.”

EARLIER:

A car has crashed into a power pole, causing lines to come down in Te Puna this morning.

A police media spokesperson says the crash happened in the southbound lane of SH2 near the Te Puna roundabout.

'A car has hit a power pole and the power pole has come down.

'The driver is conscious and breathing but unsure if there are injuries.

'This was called in to police at 9.05am.”

According to the PowerCo website, power is out for 671 properties near Te Puna.

Is it me or have there been more accidents on this 200m stretch of road since the roundabout was installed? Maybe they should spend another 5 to 8 million on removing it!! But, yes, like triplediamond.......bring on the 'lets blame the road' brigade. Idiot drivers that's all the problem is with regards to accidents. We need a new road for the volume of traffic - the idiotic drivers need handling appropriately as a separate issue.
