Tauranga Crossing amongst nation’s ‘hottest’

Tauranga Crossing CEO, Steve Lewis and the leasing team were present to collect their award.

Tauranga Crossing has been named as one of the nation's ‘hottest' up and coming businesses, after taking home the title of People's Choice Award for Hottest Retail Development at The 2018 Retail Hot List Awards.

The company is the only Bay of Plenty brand to take home an award at the inaugural ceremony with Sister & Co also nominated as a finalist in the competition.

More than 12,000 people voted for people's choice winners across 16 categories and the hotly contested category ‘People's Choice Award for Hottest Retail Development', saw Bay of Plenty's Tauranga Crossing win against a range of finalists including Commercial Bay, Five Mile, Ponsonby Central, Britomart, Westfield Newmarket, Eva Street and The Grove.

Winners for all of the awards were announced on Wednesday night at Auckland's Fresh Factory. Tauranga Crossing CEO, Steve Lewis and the leasing team were present to collect their award.

Steve says the award is a good reflection of the support they have for the development.

'We are so grateful to all of our customers and people throughout the Bay of Plenty who voted for us.

'We were originally nominated by Retail NZ and we have ended up winning the People's choice Award which ran as a poll online.

'This award signifies to us the vote of confident people have in our project. People can see that it's an exciting development and they are keen to support it.

'We've already opened stage one and we are currently working on the next phase.”

Construction of Tauranga Crossing is currently underway and on completion it will be one of the largest retail complexes in the country, says Steve.

'Stage one opened in 2016 and comprises more than 20 stores including key tenants The Warehouse, Pak'n Save, Noel Leeming and Warehouse Stationery.

'Stage two of Tauranga Crossing will be an enclosed shopping centre and has been designed by Warren and Mahoney to be an ‘experiential' retail offer.

'It's due to open in April 2019 and an impressive mix of retailers is taking shape to complement the 1,000 seat, six theatre Event cinema complex.

'When completed, the development will be one of the largest retail complexes in the country.

'Stage Two will also offer a two level precinct featuring an al fresco dining terrace. There will be an additional 80 retailers in Stage Two, which also includes a two level mall galleria with a focus on fashion including local, national and international brands, some of which will be new to Tauranga.”
