The Desert Road is closed due to a dumping of snow in the Central North Island.
Civil Defence in Taupo tweeted this morning about the closure.

The MetService is forecasting snow showers for the area today.
"A few snow showers are expected to affect higher parts of the road today.Until 2pm, expect 1 to 3cm to settle near the summit."

The latest from NZTA at 10:35 is that the road is now open but take care.
