Roadside mugging near Aongatete

Police are investigating a roadside assault and robbery from early this morning.

Pulling over to have a nap on the side of the road near Aongatete ended with a motorist being assaulted and robbed.

A police spokesperson says a 25-year-old man was robbed after he had pulled over to have a sleep in his car on Walker Road, just after 12.30am.

Two unknown men approached the driver, punched him and demanded money, before stealing his car keys and cell phone, says police.

The pair were last seen running into neighbouring orchards – heading to two separate directions.

A dog unit was used to track the offenders, but to no avail, says police.

Police enquiries to locate the offenders are ongoing.

How awful & disgusting this is, the young man was doing the right thing by pulling in & having a nap. He is obviously a responsible young man & what a crying shame for this to happen to him. Hope he is ok.
