The country's finest women rugby players will light up the Tauranga Domain next month for a Game of Three Halves, featuring a 40-minute matchup between the Black Ferns and Bay of Plenty's Volcanix.

The Auckland Storm will be the third team on display for the occasion, Saturday August 11th.

The match will be a crucial shakedown for the national team as they look ahead to their transtasman double-header kicking off in Sydney the following week.

It will also be valuable preparation for the Volcanix, newly elevated to the premiership tier of the Farrah Palmer Cup, in anticipation of the launch of the national competition on September 1.

The Women in Black will take on the Volcanix for the first ‘half', then back up against the Storm for the second 40 after the break.

The two Farrah Palmer Cup sides will then meet for the third ‘half'.

"The Game of Three Halves gives New Zealand fans and provincial players a unique experience,” says New Zealand Rugby Chief Rugby Officer Nigel Cass.

'This is a great opportunity for two Farah Palmer Cup teams to have a hit out against the best players in the country.”

Nigel is also urging Bay rugby supporters to pack out the Domain.

'For fans, it's a fun afternoon of footy. There's no gate charge and everyone is welcome."

The Game of Three Halves at Tauranga Domain kicks off at 12pm Saturday August 11.
