Tauranga's Mark Brown and Kieran Muir are confident of making a move up the leaderboard over the weekend at the lucrative Fiji International underway at Natadola Bay.

Brown played well in today's afternoon conditions to shoot 68 after an opening 75 and is in 21st equal, 10 shots behind leader Ben Campbell from Masterton.

The proven performing Brown is renowned for getting better with each round he plays in key events so could move into top 10 contention over the final two rounds.

Omokoroa-raised Muir is on 147 after rounds of 72 and 75 to make the cut right on the line at three-over par.

Muir was slightly disappointed with his second round after he started well with two birdies in his opening four holes. But four bogeys in his next five holes stopped his momentum ahead of the back nine.

He says he has much more to offer, with 'plenty left in the tank”.

'I started both rounds really well and haven't really finished them off. There are some promising signs there. Hopefully I can make some inroads this weekend up the leaderboard.”

Muir has had two fourth placings recently at the Fijian Open and Samoan Open and likes the Natadola Bay course.

'I have played it quite a few times and when you know the course well you have some pretty high expectations.”

Fellow Tauranga golfer Josh Geary improved on his second round at the magnificent Natadola Bay course on Fiji's Coral Coast.

Geary had a two-under 70 to go with his opening 81 that was blighted by triple and quadruple bogies that ultimately cost him a place in the weekend field.

He heads to Europe later this month to compete in eight vital events in his quest to retain his tour card.
