Tourist lost in Coromandel bush turns to app

The woman was located by the Tauranga-based Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter last night.

A Chilean woman lost in a Coromandel Bush turned to messaging app for help.

The 29-year-old sent a message to a friend to say she was lost in the Coromandel Forest Park on Sunday.

Police were called around 5.30pm and deployed a search team for the missing woman not long after.

Senior Sergeant Will Loughrin says search parties started looking in the Kauaeranga Valley area after her vehicle was found parked there.

The woman had been walking by herself when she got lost.

A police spokesperson says the woman was located by the Tauranga-based Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter last night.

'Her belongings were recovered and she is safe and well.”
