Western Bay of Plenty District Council is on the countdown to the opening of Katikati's newest public facility, The Centre – Pātuki Manawa.

The opening is being celebrated on Tuesday 21 August from 3pm-6pm.

During the opening members of public will have the chance to experience the art work creation by local artist Mr G on the new building alongside tours through the building to check out the new features and facilities.

Katikati Lions Club is also putting on a free sausage sizzle and coffee; and for the kids there'll be face painting and balloons, a story time corner, colouring in competition and other activities alongside a photobooth. Art from local schools will also be on displays.

Mayor Garry Webber says all of the public is welcome.

'This fantastic new facility is a place where people can host events, connect, share ideas, collaborate and innovate.”

It comprises a two-storey library and service centre building with a mezzanine floor of 800 square metres, and a 400 square metre community space and its design provides a central link between Katikati's main shopping centre and Talisman Drive.

'Opening The Centre – Pātuki Manawa marks a big step forward in creating a vibrant town centre which the whole Katikati community can be proud of.”

The current library and service centre at 36 Main Street will close while the transition between the two buildings takes place.

The Centre – Pātuki Manawa at 21 Main Street will open to the public for normal business at 8am on Wednesday 22 August following the official opening on Tuesday 21 August.

The Katikati Library team would like to thank the Katikati Football Club and a range of volunteers for their help with moving.
