OceanaGold's proposed Martha Project is now open for community feedback.
'The applications, which will be processed jointly by the two councils, cover work to stabilise the north wall of the open Martha Pit and to re-instate the pit haul road to allow access to the bottom of the pit for mining,” says a statement from the Hauraki District Council.
'New underground mining is proposed beneath the pit and also within the Rex vein which is situated under a reserve/residential area from the rugby clubrooms to the Mueller and Kenny Street intersection.”
The applications also cover the proposed subdivision of a piece of company-owned residential land on the corner of Bulltown and Cambridge Roads.
The subdivided piece of land will be used for a road realignment, says the council.
Copies of the application documents and all supporting technical information are available on the Councils' websites, and hard copies are available for viewing at Council offices and libraries.
Online submissions can be made via the Councils' websites.
Submission forms can also be downloaded from the websites or picked up from the Paeroa and Waihi Council offices and libraries.
Submitters must also supply a copy of their submission to OceanaGold.
'It's expected the hearing will be scheduled for mid-November. The Council has resolved to use independent commissioners to decide on the application.”
Submissions close at 4.30pm on Friday 14 September 2018.
