Two killed in weekend crashes

Police are investigating two fatal crashes which happened on Western Bay of Plenty roads at the weekend.

Two people are dead following two crashes in the Western Bay of Plenty.

One person was killed in a crash on State Highway 2, near Munro Road.

Emergency services were called to the crash at 11.20am on Sunday.

It's understood two vehicles were involved in the crash.

Police say the man was the only person in his vehicle and another person from the second vehicle sustained moderate injuries in the crash.

The highway was closed for several hours while the crash scene was investigated.

It was re-opened sometime around 2pm.

Meanwhile, police are continuing to investigate another fatal crash which happened on Saturday.

A police spokesperson says a person was killed when they were hit by a truck on State Highway 29a around 4.30am.

Cordons were in place at the Maungatapu Bridge and at the SH29a/Maungatapu/Welcome Bay roundabout.

Police are continuing to investigate this crash.
