A magnitude 7.8 earthquake has shaken Fiji, hitting 101km east-southeast of Suva, according to the US Geological Survey.
That measurement was revised from an initial reading of 8.1.
The quake hit at 3.49am on Friday.
It occurred at a depth of about 608km.
The Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management said there was no tsunami threat to NZ.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said no Pacific-wide tsunami was expected either.
There is no tsunami threat to New Zealand following the 8.1M FIJI earthquake.
