Te Puke Highway closed after serious crash

Police are diverted traffic away from the crash scene.

UPDATED 7.22AM: Police are attending a serious crash involving two vehicles on the Te Puke Highway at Papamoa.

Emergency services were called to the scene near Bell Road at 6.54am.

Two people are injured, says a police spokesperson.

"The road is blocked and diversions are in place.

"Police are asking motorists to please use the Eastern Arterial Link as an alternative and to avoid the area if possible."

EARLIER:

Reports are coming in of a crash on Te Puke Highway.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a car and truck have crashed on the highway, near Bell Road.

The caller wasn't sure about any injuries, but believed the crash may cause delays on the highway.

Emergency services have been called to the scene.
