A blaze in the Bay of Plenty kept firefighters busy for most of the night.

Around 25 firefighters battled the fire at a home on Powdrell Road, near Whakatane.

Emergency northern communications shift manager Paul Radden says they were called to the property just after 10pm on Sunday.

The fire had been extinguished by 6am on Monday, says Paul.

He says a crew is still on site monitoring for any hot spots and a fire safety investigator is on the way to the scene to investigate the cause of the blaze.
