Mobile meth lab found in Hauraki

The lab wasn't being used to cook meth at the time of the discovery.

Four people have been arrested after a mobile P lab was uncovered in a Waikato home.

The discovery was made when Waikato police undertook a pre-dawn raid at a home in Kerepehi in the Hauraki Plains on Tuesday.

Officers with the help of the Armed Offenders Squad searched the house before daybreak as part of ongoing investigations into the manufacture of methamphetamine in the eastern Waikato, Eastern area investigations manager, says Detective Senior Sergeant Stephen Ambler.

They discovered a "boxed up" mobile methamphetamine lab and chemicals used in the manufacture of the drug.

Although the lab wasn't being used to cook meth at the time, Stephen says police believe the drug had been manufactured at the property.

Cannabis, cannabis oil, methamphetamine, pipes, together with other paraphernalia used to consume drugs were also found.

About $4000 in cash was also seized. Police were making further inquiries into several suspicious items found at the home.

Four people - two women and two men - were at the house at the time.

All four were arrested and two are due to appear in Hamilton District Court on Tuesday where police plan to oppose bail.

"Organised crime and methamphetamine manufacturing and distribution is a priority in the eastern area all the time. A lot of what happens here through organised crime and drugs is linked."

The meth lab was discovered in a garage at the back of the property that had been divided into living quarters.

The home was located in central Kerepehi and Ambler believes residents would likely have noticed suspicious activity.

He encouraged anyone who notices suspicious activity, like strange comings and goings at all hours of the night, to report it to police anonymously.

"Typically the most common sign is a lot of activity in the early hours of the morning - that tends to be when this type of activity takes place in residential houses."

The man and woman due to appear in court lived at the home while the other two have been released with charges pending.

Anyone wanting to report any suspicious activity can call police anonymously on Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
