Bay of Plenty Volcanix on hunt for first win

Volcanix coach Brendon Webby is telling his team to keep the faith.

If they do, he says, the results will start to come, and tonight in their fourth Farah Palmer Cup outing against Taranaki at Rotorua International Stadium they have a good chance to make it happen.

Taranaki are in their debut year in the competition, and have struggled so far with heavy losses in all three of their matches. They sit bottom of the lower Championship division, so on paper it looks a highly winnable proposition for the Volcanix.

The blue and golds are also without a win, but they have been facing generally tougher opposition in the Premiership tier, and have shown steady improvement in their three matches.

They may well have broken their duck last week away to Manawatu, looking well in the game until a second half yellow card dropped them to 14 on the field. The home side took advantage to grab a couple of tries and ease out to the winning score of 22-10.

Brendon is telling his side their methods are right, and urging them to maintain their process in order to collect a win over the competition newbies.

'We've continued to work hard across the past couple of weeks and we're starting to demonstrate we're competitive at that next level,” he says.

'We just need to connect our final phases.

'Once we get that right and keep focusing on the process the results should come.”

Rotorua International Stadium tonight hosts the first double header of the round celebrating wahine in rugby and 125 years of the suffrage movement as the Volcanix take on Taranaki followed by the Steamers' clutch Mitre 10 Cup clash with Waikato.

The Volcanix are making a number of lineup changes for tonight's match. Prop Braxton Walker will make her first start of the season with Baye Jacob unavailable. Kendra Reynolds returns to her favoured blindside flanker position, with Captain Christie Yule moving to number eight.

In the backs, Black Fern Renee Wickliffe moves in to start at twelve with Emily Magee taking her place on the right wing and Tania Raharuhi moving to the bench. Utility back Olivia Richardson comes into the playing 22, and is joined on the bench by Whakarewarewa's first five-eight Te Rina Mohi in jersey number 20 on her Volcanix debut.

The match kicks off at 5:05, followed by the Steamers' encounter with Waikato at 7:35.
