Strong wind watch in place for BOP

West to southwest gales for the Coromandel Peninsula and the Western Bay of Plenty are expected today and a strong wind watch has been put in place.

A statement from MetService says a strong, cold southwest flow will spread over the country today.

'The strong winds are likely to affect parts of the North Island during Tuesday and early Wednesday.”

'This watch is for the likelihood that west to southwest gales could approach severe gales about eastern parts of Coromandel and Bay of Plenty west of Te Puke.”

MetService are advising people to stay up to date with the latest forecast, warnings and watches.

Strong Wind Watch:

Area: Coromandel Peninsula south of Whitianga and Western Bay of
Plenty.
Valid: 7 hours from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm Tuesday.
Forecast: Gale westerlies in exposed places, may rise to severe gale
at times.
