The new build of Te Puna Kindergarten is starting today.

Due to a major roading project the kindergarten has to relocate and will now built in the development at the end of Minden Road with views out to Matakana and the Kaimai Ranges.

The new kindergarten is aiming to be completed by mid-2019.

'We are extremely excited to have a brand new purpose built kindergarten. This is a large ongoing project with a lot of dedicated passionate people behind it. The efforts and dedication of our kindergarten families, fundraising committee, the community and local businesses has been extraordinary, says Head Teacher Paula Osborn.

'We would like to say a special thank you to our teachers, fundraising committee, kindergarten families, the local community, Andrew from Mod Architecture, Jacob Earthworks and Ray Carter Sawmills for their amazing support.”

The design and materials of the build were all carefully considered by Designer Andrew Ward of Mod Architecture.

'The main activity area was designed to reference a traditional barn while the opposing mono pitch form depicts the same in an abstract fashion. The building has been specifically designed to incorporate a high level of sustainability and energy efficiency for cost effectiveness”, says Andrew.

Andrew carefully selected materials for their non-toxic, chemical free, low VOC, sustainability and end of life properties ensuring a building that is sustainable, safe and as chemical free as possible.

'Te Puna Kindergarten has always been a dynamic kindergarten that gives children the opportunity to learn in nature. We cannot wait to create a new 21st century learning space in this beautiful rural environment', says Inspired Kindergartens' Principal Peter Monteith

"There is still a lot of work to be done before this large project is completed."

The Te Puna Kindergarten committee have created a cookbook titled Grounded in Goodness to help raise funds to pay for some of costs associated with the new facility.
