Papamoa murder accused to remain in custody

The man appeared via audio visual link in Tauranga District Court today.

The man accused of fatally stabbing another man in Papamoa will remain in custody until his next court appearance.

The 22-year-old murder accused made his second appearance at Tauranga District Court today via audio visual link.

He was granted named suppression during his first court appearance. This continue today.

He was arrested and charged with murder following a family harm incident last month.

Police say a man in his 40s died after being stabbed on Saturday September 22.

During his court appearance today, Justice Matthew Downs remanded the accused in custody for a further four to six weeks.

During this time a medical assessment will take place to determine his fitness to plead.

A two-week jury trial is also set to take place from October 17 2019.
