Bay of Plenty rugby's under 16s have finished third in the Chiefs region tournament completed this week at Rotorua Boys' High School.

A 26-7 win over Counties Manukau on Tuesday was the highlight of the event for the team.

They also put in a solid performance in a tight encounter with Taranaki on Monday, going down 24-20, but found the going tougher in their closing match with Waikato yesterday, coming out on the wrong side of a 39-12 scoreline.

The Bay came home with six points, including bonus points for their close loss to Taranaki and strong win over Counties.

Waikato came out top of the pile in the tournament with three wins, going through unbeaten.
