Bay of Plenty's Northern Districts all-rounder Brett Hampton – known as Hammer - showed he's ready to strike in the upcoming domestic white ball campaign, blasting the highest ever Baywide Twenty 20 score on the opening day of the new season.

In the first match of a double-header at Rotorua's Boord Park to launch the new competition the Eves Realty Greerton master-blaster smashed 155 runs off 70-odd balls against New World Te Puke.

The fielding side could only stand and watch as Hampton blasted a remarkable 17 sixes, giving him a century (102) in boundaries.

Greerton went on to post 244 for the loss of five wickets, with Pip Thickpenny making a solid contribution of 47, and then dismissed Te Puke for 111 to take the match by 133 runs in an imposing performance, laying down the gauntlet to the other Baywide T20 championship contenders.

Carrus Mount Maunganui posted a solid 177/8 against Bond & Co Tauranga Boys' College, then bowled the students out for just 69, to claim a 108 run win. Highlight of the encounter was a 101 run partnership between Mount openers Peter Drysdale (65) and Ben Musgrave (36), while last season's youngest ever Bay of Plenty senior debutante Tim Pringle took the very respectable figures of 3/25 off his four overs.

In the third round one match three scores in the thirties by Captain Jono Boult, Jacob Logan and George Catto, took Element IMF Cadets to an easy victory over Bayleys Central Indians.

GM Painters Lake Taupo CC, who sat out the first round with a bye, started their second season in Baywide cricket with a flourish in the afternoon match, easily accounting for Tauranga Boys' College. Batting first, the college posted a creditable total of 136/7 in their 20 overs. Newcomer Dillon Preston top scored with a hard fought 47 runs with Roger Urbahn taking four wickets at a cost of 35 runs.

The Great Lake outfit then cruised to a nine wicket victory. AJ How led the way with a gritty 60, while fellow opener Michael Mitchell posted an unbeaten 48 runs.

Greerton continued on from their herculean first round performance, defeating arch-rivals Cadets in the second match of the afternoon. Hampton continued where he'd left off in game one, with a belligerent 80, including nine sixes and three fours, while Umesh Ranaraja and Pip Thickpenny reached 27 and 25. Cadets were removed for 105, with new Northern Districts contract-holder Sean Davey their best contributor with 36 runs.

Mt Maunganui joined Greerton as the two unbeaten sides on opening day, when they took out a nine wicket victory over Te Puke.
