Highway open after three car crash

Diversions are in place after a serious crash on SH2.

UPDATE 7.06PM: State Highway 2, near Te Puke Golf Club, is now open following a three car crash.

Emergency services were called to the crash at 5pm.

A police spokesperson says only three vehicles were involved in the crash and not five as originally reported.

"Three people have serious injuries and have been taken to Tauranga Hospital for treatment.

"The scene examination is complete and the road is now open."

UPDATE 6.11pm: Three people are in a serious condition and are being taken to Tauranga Hospital after a serious crash on State Highway Two.

A police spokesperson says the road will be closed for another hour.

The diversions are at the following roads: Maniatutu Road, Old Coach Road and Wilson Road South.

EARLIER:

Multiple vehicles have been involved in a serious accident on State Highway Two.

Emergency Services were called to the scene near the intersection of Wilson Road and SH2.

There are reports of at least three cars involved in the crash.

A police spokesperson says two people are reported to be in a serious condition, while two other people are reportedly trapped.

'The scene will be closed down while emergency services attend to those involved.”

Diversion will be put in place, and motorists are asked to avoid the area.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says there are two ambulances, three cops and three fire crews at the scene.
