The four people taken to hospital following a multiple vehicle crash on State Highway 2 have been discharged from Tauranga Hospital.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of State Highway two and Wilsons Road North, near the Te Puke Golf Club at 5pm.

At the time of the crash, police said at least three people had been taken to Tauranga Hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the three vehicle crash.

While the cause of the crash is still being investigated, a police spokesperson says initial indications are that a car pulled out from a side road, into the path of another vehicle.

'A third vehicle crashed while attempting to avoid those two cars.”

The highway reopened around 7pm after the scene examination was completed.
