The new community workspace The Kollective, opens officially on Monday October 15, with a blessing of the building taking place this morning.

Members from all sorts of different non-for profit organisations came to check out the new work space and where they will be setting up shop.

It's a very exciting day for all of those involved with TK manager Gordy Lockhart saying that nobody expected it to turn out the way that it did.

'I am absolutely over the moon with how this has all turned out. After a 14 hour workday yesterday the space has completely transformed.”

As you walk around the two story building, there are desks and chairs, booths, meeting rooms, single spaces and shared spaces all in different colours.

The pink fixed desks and the blue flexi desks.

With all of those different colours, comes a meaning behind it. In this case it's the different membership options.

There are five different membership types falling into two different categories, resident and non-resident.

A resident membership means you'll work regularly within The Kollective building either having a fixed or a flexi desk, either on a causal or more permanent basis.

A non-resident membership is for the organisations with regular meetings, but you don't have the need for an admin base.

Gordy says at this stage there are more fixed desks than there are flexi desks.

'The fixed desks are the ones with the pink, and that will be your permeant spot so you are able to decorate it as much as you would like.

'The flexi desks are blue, and one day you might be sitting upstairs next to the window and the next time you come into the office you might be across the room.

'At this stage it is about 75 percent fixed and 25 percent flexi.”

The Kollective workspace as Gordy calls, it is not just about a desk, it's a working environment.

'It's about creating a fun environment for people to work in.”

There are also different lockers and storage units placed all around the building. There is also noise absorbing phone booths, for those private calls.

Most of the couches and furniture are made out of noise absorbing materials, meaning that other colleagues or people working in the area of the building won't hear every word of your conversation or meeting.

The building has been designed to take out the noise, so the workspace is able to be worked in and not over run by different conversations.

General Manager of Social Link, Liz Davies says it's just amazing to see the building come to life off the plans.

'The Kollective has massive potential and it is all very exciting to see how it will all go.”

Simon Bridges was also at the blessing for The Kollective and says that it an amazing thing to add to the community of Tauranga.

'This is a way for non-for profit organisations to get the job done instead of having to worry about leaks or running hot water, which some of them have had to deal with in the past.”
