Police can confirm a man has died following a crash in Matata this afternoon.
The crash was reported to emergency services at 4.24pm and involved a vehicle hitting powerlines.
Matata Road (SH2) remains closed between Manawahe Road and Flax Road, says a police spokesperson.
"Diversions are in place and motorists are asked to avoid the area.
"The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash."

WB traffic turn right from SH2 onto Manawahe Rd, then left onto Cazerhill Rd, then right back to SH2. EB is the opposite.
