Damaged cable causes Papamoa broadband outage

Papamoa residents are facing what has been described as a ‘large-scale' outage to their internet services.

According to the UltraFast Fibre Network website, the outage is a result of a damaged fibre cable in Papamoa.

'The damage to the cable happened late Monday and repair crews worked through the night to repair it.”

UFF says partial services have been restored in Papamoa, but the repair work is ongoing.

'Ultrafast Fibre is not able to provide a precise time for the completion of work due to the seriousness of the breakage.

'Overnight repairs were able to restore some of the services and crews will continue repairs on remaining damaged fibres today,” says UFF.

More updates are expected later today.

The outage also follows a large scale power cut in Tauranga on Monday which affected Powerco's Omanu, Papamoa, Matapihi, Te Maunga and Triton substations.

About 22,000 Powerco customers were without power for 30 minutes during the outage, due to a fault on the national grid.
